Telecom selected for 70% of UFB share

The government have selected Telecom to provide fibre to approximately 70% of the UFB coverage area including Auckland, the lower North Island, and most of the South Island. This equates to 24 of the candidate areas that the soon to be de-merged Chorus, Telecom's access network arm, will provide fibre to.

Enable Networks, a subsidiary of Christchurch City Holdings, won the bid for the Christchurch and Rangiora region. Chorus however intends to enter negotiations with Enable to take up to a 50% stake in that area.

In addition, Telecom has signaled that it is willing to talk to the other Crown fibre winners about working together.
